AIT Car Pooling Facebook Page is an initiative of AIT Sustainability Club with the following objectives:
- Sharing the cost of travel expenses
- Reduce the carbon emissions of the campus
- A chance for socializing during a long drive
The car pooling can be used in the following scenarios:
- Travelling from or to the airports
- Bulk shopping that would require a vehicle E.g. Makro, Talad Thai
- Users owning vehicles that wouldn’t mind some company with or without a fee
- For organizing group trips
The methodology used will be that of creating an ‘Event’ on the facebook page ” AIT Car Pooling” . In this way, if anyone is interested in car pooling, he/she can
- Initially see the list of events by clicking on ‘Events’. If there is already a car pooling event that suits your requirement then you contact the creator.
- If an event doesn’t exist, then one can create an event.

Greetings from AIT Campus Sustainability Club!
“Raise your voice, not the sea level” is this year’s slogan for World Environment Day, given by UNEP. By this time all of us must be aware that World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5, every year.
We, from AIT Campus Sustainability Club, would also like to extend our program on the occasion of WED based on the concept of 3R (Reduce, Recycle and Reuse). The basic idea is to aware AIT community on “waste separation” and dumping of the wastes into different bins accordingly.
The club has therefore decided to place two different colored bins (“Yellow” for plastic, and “green” for paper” at Lawson 108, in front of dorm P and near grocery store. We request everybody to dump your garbage accordingly. We would also be highly indebted if you could pass this message to other AIT community members.
In addition, we would also like to inform that, a truck collects dry recyclables (paper, plastic, metal, card boards

etc) in exchange of cash, on first Saturday of every month. The general route for the truck is ST4, ST6, ST8, ST9-10, Dorm R and ST3. This could be a perfect example of earning “green money” along with environmental benefits.

AIT Campus Sustainability Club is an initiative by SU Campus and Environment Committee to conduct activities related to sustaining and supporting the various management systems in AIT. These systems relate to water management, waste management, environment management, energy management, natural resources management and managing transportation inside campus. Working with reference to the “AIT: A Sustainability Laboratory” concept paper, we will strive to make AIT a model campus in the region. Along with that, the objective is also to make the AIT community more conscious about reducing wasteful activities and increasing their participation in spreading awareness about the harmful environmental effects of consuming more energy, paper, water, producing more waste etc.
Each and every member of the AIT community is encouraged to participate in this club (Faculty, Staff, Students, Family members) and show his/her commitment by giving their inputs and ideas on what we can do as well as executing those ideas to make the campus environment more sustainable. The club activities have already started from end of January 2014.
“SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS “ - the first effort
On 14 February 2014, this club started the initiation of “Say No to Plastic Bag” campaign generating awareness among students, staffs, faculty, and visitors inside AIT campus to discourage against using plastic bags. More than 80 people have signed the pledge and participated in this campaign. The club also aims to completely remove plastic bags from within the campus premises by collecting cloth bags donated by the residence of AIT campus.
A total of 37 bags collected will be distributed evenly among the Lawson 108 shop and grocery shops for buyers to lend, use and return back the bags when not required. Also, this campaign encourages buyers to bring their own bags for shopping and not use plastic bags as possible inside the campus. The executive committee of the club is thankful and overwhelmed by the efforts and participation of all the campus residence and hopeful to conduct such further activities in coming days.
AIT observes Earth Hour to create awareness on Sustainable Energy Management
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) had observed Earth Hour by turning off all the non-essential lights for an hour (8:30-9:30 local time) in its university premises through an event organized by AIT Campus Sustainability Club. On a daily basis, AIT consumes on an average of 1370 kWh of electricity between 8:30 to 9:30 pm but the consumption was significantly reduced to 1290 kWh during earth hour observation. These figures prominently show that just by turning off non essential lights and electrical appliances, energy consumption could be reduced concomitantly lowering the carbon emission.
By doing so, the AIT community was not only conserving energy but was also joining a global petition on bringing awareness on global environment and opting for sustainable future. A group of 80 people including students, staffs and faculties gathered in front of AITCC (besides lotus pond) to appeal on using electricity wisely. Approximately 900 non-toxic and smoke free natural candles were lighted up to make the event more attractive.
AIT Campus Sustainability Club believes that this event was a great opportunity for AIT to work together in harmony and peace for better earth and better future.

Earth Day, 22nd April 2014
AIT Campus Sustainability Club celebrated “HUG A TREE DAY” with whole AIT community. The theme was used to spread awareness and love for trees among community. The way of celebration was to take a picture while hugging a tree and posting on social networking websites by using hash tag which was#hugatreeaitcsc.
Club got many participation for this event and AITains liked this fun way of spreading awareness.
It was another successful event for AIT Campus Sustainability Club and we are looking forward for more fun ways to celebrate and motivate our community.
